Jensen Interceptor GTX marks the spectacular return of one of Britain’s most recognizable grand tourers. Jensen International Automotive has unveiled a modern, track-focused interpretation of the legendary Interceptor, combining classic proportions with extreme aerodynamics and a supercharged V-8.
960 horsepower from a heavily reworked V-8
At the heart of the new Interceptor GTX is a 6.8-liter supercharged V-8 producing an impressive 960 hp and sending its power exclusively to the rear wheels. The engine is based on General Motors' LT architecture, but has been extensively re-engineered by Texas-based Late Model Engines, with less than 20 percent of the original GM components remaining.
The engine can rev to 7000 rpm and is paired with a 2.7-liter Roots-type supercharger with electronic boost control. Jensen says the powerplant is capable of producing up to 1200 hp and more than 1000 lb-ft of torque.
Six-speed sequential transmission and racing hardware
Power reaches the rear transaxle through a carbon-fiber driveshaft housed inside a steel torque tube. The six-speed sequential gearbox comes from Samsonas Motorsport and uses straight-cut dog gears. Drivers can shift using steering-column-mounted paddles or a conventional lever positioned on the transmission tunnel.
The Interceptor GTX also features an aluminum chassis, adjustable three-way dampers, aluminum suspension components and forged 20-inch Vossen wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
Classic Jensen design with modern aerodynamics
The design of the GTX pays tribute to the original Jensen Interceptor without simply recreating it. The long hood, fastback roofline and large glass rear section recall the classic car, while modern details give the GTX a much more aggressive character.
Aerodynamics are a major part of the new Interceptor. The car features a large front splitter, brake-cooling openings, aerodynamic side skirts, a substantial rear diffuser and a huge adjustable rear wing. According to Jensen, the rear wing can generate more than 771 pounds of downforce.
A race-car interior
Inside, the GTX is built around its track-focused purpose. The cabin features an FIA-approved roll cage, Tillett carbon-fiber seats, six-point harnesses and a fire-extinguisher system. Instead of a conventional infotainment screen, the driver gets a large digital display behind the steering wheel.
Jensen Interceptor GT and GTR are coming
The GTX is only the beginning of the revived Jensen Interceptor family. Jensen International Automotive plans two road-going versions: the Interceptor GTR, which will retain much of the GTX's aggressive character, and the more luxurious Interceptor GT.
The GTX will now enter dynamic testing and evaluation, while Jensen plans to customize individual cars according to customer specifications. Pricing and exact delivery dates have not yet been announced.
