Koenigsegg CCGT1 brings a legendary motorsport dream back to life. More than two decades ago, Christian von Koenigsegg developed the original CCGT with the goal of competing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GT1 class. However, changes to FIA regulations prevented the car from ever making its racing debut.
Now, Koenigsegg has created the CCGT1 as a modern tribute to that unfinished chapter. The original CCGT prototype has been restored and is expected to compete in a historic GT1 racing class, while the new road-going model combines extreme performance with unmistakable motorsport-inspired aerodynamics.
1600 Horsepower from a Twin-Turbo V8
At the heart of the Koenigsegg CCGT1 is a twin-turbocharged V8 producing 1280 hp on standard gasoline. Switch to E85 fuel and output rises to an astonishing 1600 hp, making the CCGT1 even more powerful than the CC850 from which its architecture originated.
Built Around Downforce
The CCGT1 is instantly recognizable thanks to its enormous active rear wing, which rises above the roofline. The wing can adjust through 30 degrees and automatically changes its position depending on whether the car is braking, cornering or accelerating on a straight.
A huge front splitter and active underbody flaps work together with the rear wing to generate approximately 1763 pounds of downforce at 155 mph. Almost every exterior body panel has been redesigned compared with the CC850, with only the roof and doors remaining unchanged.
The lightweight bodywork also incorporates Koenigsegg's Ghost Fibre, a special white lightweight material similar in concept to carbon fiber.
Race-Inspired Transmission
The V8 is connected to a bespoke nine-speed sequential transmission. It uses a clutch pedal for takeoff, while ignition interruption enables clutchless shifts once the car is moving. Customers can also choose a more traditional gated six-speed manual-style transmission.
Designed for the Road and the Track
Despite its extreme racing character, Koenigsegg says the CCGT1 is intended to be exciting both on public roads and on a racetrack. An optional track package takes the car even further, adding a carbon roll cage, HANS-compatible racing seats, track-focused suspension and brakes, air jacks, a fire-suppression system and track tires.
Owners who select the track package will also receive invitations to special CCGT1 track days supported by Koenigsegg's factory team.
Only 70 Examples
Koenigsegg plans to build just 70 CCGT1 cars, and every example had already been claimed by the time the supercar was officially revealed. The price has not been disclosed, adding another layer of exclusivity to this tribute to the abandoned Le Mans dream.
