McLaren 788HS: The Ultimate Farewell to the Legendary V8 Supercar Line
McLaren has officially unveiled the 788HS, an ultra-exclusive high-performance supercar based on the acclaimed 750S. Limited to just 200 units worldwide, the new model represents the final and most extreme evolution of McLaren's iconic mid-engine twin-turbo V8 platform that began with the 720S in 2017.
777 Horsepower from the Twin-Turbo V8
The 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 has been upgraded to deliver an impressive 777 horsepower while maintaining 590 lb-ft of torque. The name "788HS" comes from the engine's output in metric horsepower (788 PS), while HS stands for High Sport.
Performance remains breathtaking:
- 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds
- 0-124 mph in 7.0 seconds
- Top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h)
- Dry weight reduced to only 2,789 pounds
Track-Focused Aerodynamics
The 788HS features an entirely redesigned aerodynamic package constructed primarily from carbon fiber. New components include an S-duct hood, aggressive front splitter, Formula 1-inspired rear diffuser, and a larger active rear wing.
These improvements generate 10% more downforce than the already extreme McLaren 765LT, making the 788HS one of the most track-capable road cars McLaren has ever produced.
Improved Chassis and Driving Experience
McLaren continues using its advanced hydraulic suspension system without traditional anti-roll bars, now further optimized for sharper handling. The front ride height has been lowered, while Senna-derived carbon-ceramic brakes and center-lock wheels appear for the first time in this model family.
A newly developed titanium quad-exit exhaust and revised engine mounts promise an even more engaging driving experience both on the road and the racetrack.
Only 200 Cars Worldwide
Production will be strictly limited to 100 Coupes and 100 Spider convertibles. Every vehicle will be individually customized by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), making each example unique.
The 788HS also marks the end of McLaren's award-winning V8 supercar generation before an all-new successor expected in 2028.
