The Maiden Tower, known locally as Giz Galasi, stands majestically in the heart of Baku's Old City. This ancient structure has puzzled historians and archaeologists for centuries. Its exact purpose remains a mystery, with various theories suggesting it was a defensive fortification, a sun-worshipping temple, or even a lighthouse. The tower stands approximately 28 meters tall and has walls that are about 5 meters thick. Archaeological excavations have revealed ancient pottery and artifacts suggesting habitation dating back centuries. The tower was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, recognizing its cultural and historical significance to Azerbaijan and the world.
