The classic BMW X5 E53 has been transformed into something BMW never officially offered: a one-off performance SUV powered by a 5.0-liter V10 and equipped with a three-pedal manual transmission.
Created through a collaboration involving Kith and BMW enthusiast Ronnie Fieg, the project began with a 2000 BMW X5. The SUV was completely disassembled and restored before receiving an engine from the legendary BMW M5.
The V10 has been upgraded with forged pistons and custom tuning, producing approximately 500 horsepower. Even more unusual is the transmission: instead of an automatic gearbox, the X5 uses a genuine manual transmission while retaining its factory all-wheel-drive system.
The exterior also received a subtle transformation. The front end takes inspiration from the legendary BMW X5 Le Mans, while a widebody kit, revised rear aerodynamics and a reworked suspension give the SUV a more aggressive stance without making it look like an extreme show car.
Inside, the cabin retains an almost factory appearance. One of the biggest clues to the X5's unusual mechanical package is the 9000-rpm tachometer borrowed from the M5, while the manual gear lever immediately reveals that this is far from an ordinary E53.
The result is a fascinating combination of SUV practicality, BMW M-car engineering and old-school driving involvement. It is only a one-off build, but it demonstrates just how interesting the E53 X5 can become when modern customization meets classic BMW engineering.
